Do you have a child with food allergies, or do you suspect food allergies in your child? Food allergies children can usually be diagnosed with an allergy test from your doctor. However, allergy tests aren’t always reliable.

Plus some doctors regard tests as absolute, they cover everything that could be an allergen and if there is no reaction, your child is not allergic. But Type III allergies cannot be found with any type of laboratory testing, only by diet modification.

When you are dealing with food allergies children, you’ll find that dietary modification is the best form of treatment. You may be able to stop allergy symptoms by switching brands or avoiding a particular food. Other food allergies will require major dietary alterations. This is true for foods like wheat and dairy that are common ingredients in many food dishes.

It is even possible that you will have to give up a few of your family’s favorite dishes. Before doing that though, search for recipes that use alternative ingredients for similar dishes. You may be able to substitute almond milk for cow’s milk and soy cheese for dairy cheese and create a dish that is nearly the same as the original.

Be prepared for your child to have difficulty adjusting to a change of diet. Kids and adults alike take comfort in certain foods and miss not being able to eat them. Making drastic changes overnight might cause a few temper tantrums but remember you are doing it for the health of your child.

If your child is old enough to understand about food allergies children, you can explain how certain foods react in his body to give him the symptoms that make him feel bad. If he understands a little bit about how allergies work, he might be more cooperative with making different food choices.

Another way to avoid tantrums is to do a gradual change and don’t single out your child’s diet. The gradual approach only works if the Food Allergies Children aren’t life threatening though. A good example of a gradual change is with a dairy allergy. Many children eat cheese on their sandwiches or have a yogurt tube for a snack. Skipping the cheese and giving your child a piece of fruit for a snack are small changes that will reduce the amount of dairy in your child’s diet.

Use your child’s allergy problem to improve the overall diet of every family member. That way your child won’t resent other family members if they eat junk food in front of him. While you want to blend your food choices to keep everyone happy, be careful about limiting the diet of other family members. For example, if macaroni and cheese is a family favorite, you could make two dishes. One would be made from dairy products and the other could be made from soy milk and soy cheese for your child with allergies. Dealing with food allergies children will take some creativity on your part but the health of your child and happiness of your family is worth it.

Improving diet is one way to treat food allergies children. Knowing the common symptoms of food allergies is important, especially if you are a parent.

Keep a copy of this list somewhere you will always remember, such as on the refrigerator or in a kitchen drawer, along with an Epi-pen or a dose of Benadryl.

The more people who know what to do in case of an emergency, and are aware of what foods may be dangerous to your child, the less chance there will be of accidental exposure. If you are traveling for the holidays or on vacation, don’t be afraid to tell restaurants about your child’s needs and restrictions. Many times they will have alternatives for your child’s meal.
