Cradle Cap Treatment Strategy

By Alex

Many new moms and even some seasoned mothers of infants really want to know how to get rid of cradle cap. This condition is more than a little annoyance for many parents. It isn’t a real health hazard but it is relatively unattractive and it can be the source of great stress to parents.

Cradle cap is a condition that has been around as long as babies have graced the planet. This condition is unattractive because scale-like flakes form on the scalp. This is a particularly difficult situation for babies with thick, dark hair. The thick flakes are easily spotted but not easily removed.

While I would love to tell you that there is a surefire approach to completely removing cradle cap from your baby’s scalp, there really isn’t. Many parents swear that baby oil or olive oil is the perfect solution for this infant skin problem. However, these really don’t do the trick.

The oils can loosen a little bit of the scales but they really do have some cons. These elements serve more to hide the condition rather than curing it. When the oil is in place, it is difficult to see the scales. They become blended away but they are still there. Oils are great for masking the problem but they are not the secret cradle cap treatment.

Many parents take great preventative measures. These include washing the baby’s hair and scalp with very gentle shampoo that washes away easily. The key is to make sure that all of the soap is completely washed out to ensure that no build-up is left behind. Some head-to-toe formulas are more difficult to flush out so it is important to invest in a good baby shampoo that is designed to help keep cradle cap at bay.

Combing the hair to scrape the thick yellow scalp flakes away is another approach that yields temporary results. This strategy can be time consuming and it can also lead to irritation on the scalp, making future combing uncomfortable for the little one. This process removes cradle cap but it doesn’t take care of the core problem.

The best approach to take is a combination of a good quality shampoo for infants and a cradle cap remover. The removers are made specifically for this condition and they work wonders at removing and preventing further outbreaks to occur. These products are the secret cradle cap treatment for an extended period of time.
